The Mystery of Rey

The great thing about The Force Awakens is the mystery that comes with the excitement.

This case being Daisy Ridley’s character of Rey.

We’re first introduced to Rey when she is scavenging through a grounded and deteriorated Star Destroyer.

As the movie progresses, we see different sides of Rey and one thing comes to mind immediately.

She is highly capable of taking care of herself.

She roams the sands of Jakku looking for parts to trade in for food.

Her fortunes change of course when she saves BB-8 from fellow scavenger Teedo.

O5vBAh2.jpg

Of course Rey eventually meets Finn as the both of them leave Jakku for good.

What’s very interesting about Rey is she isn’t opposed to company.

In fact, Rey practically welcomes it.

You would think of a desert scavenger to be more of a “one man wrecking crew” or someone operates better alone but no, Rey enjoys the company.

This brings me to my point of this post.

Someone like Rey reminds me so much of Luke but that’s too obvious…

What I’m talking about here is who are Rey’s parents!?

As I said a couple of lines ago, Rey is very reminiscent of Luke Skywalker.

Also very similar to Han Solo with a tinge of Leia.

Rey is someone who is a friendly, bubbly loner who is looking for excitement, friendship and most importantly of all, adventure.

leia-rey-solo-163329.jpg

I think to say Rey is Luke’s daughter is like saying Darth Vader is a robot.

It’s too obvious of a guess that there’s no way it can be true!

If you haven’t caught on by now, Disney operates under unique guidelines.

They love to keep the fans guessing.

As I described Rey’s similar traits to Han and Leia, it sounds more and more of a fit.

So let’s delve deeper…

Here is five reasons why Rey is the daughter of Han and Leia

  1. When Rey first comes aboard the Millennium Falcon and meets Han Solo, he seems curiously not surprised. Normally Han would be more aggressive and questioning to see a girl manning his beloved starship. Seeing Rey was almost expected…
  2. I find it odd that someone as independent as Solo would offer Rey a job so soon after meeting her. I understand that they definitely had some kind of chemistry between them with their piloting skills but it seems a little fishy.
  3. Like I just said, Han and Rey have so much in common. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Rey is so adept at flying the Falcon. You don’t just hop on a random ship and suddenly know how to avoid pursuers as capable as the TIE pilots.
  4. Rey has the power of the Force. Although Leia doesn’t actually use the force, it’s obvious that it’s in her blood. With that being said, isn’t it ironic that just like Princess Leia was in A New Hope, Rey was interrogated in The Force Awakens? A curious similarity between the two.
  5. When Rey first gets off the Falcon and is within the confines of the Resistance base, she sees Leia for the first time, or so we think…the look Leia gives Rey is very peculiar. It’s almost as if she knows who Rey is since she welcomes her with a big hug. Very interesting.2310969_orig

These parallels are too good to be ignored.

I know we’re all supposed to think that Rey is the daughter of Luke but I don’t know.

If Rey is to be Kylo Ren’s nemesis, wouldn’t it make more sense that she is his sister rather than his cousin?

It definitely adds to the pot and makes the story line all the more potent.

I’ve heard rumors that within The Force Awakens novel, Rey’s true parents are revealed.

I read Star Wars books every single day and that book will be near the top of my list when I finally get my hands on it.

The last little tidbit I would like to share with you all is a radical theory.

Hear me out.

What if Rey was the relative of…

ben-kenobi.jpg

Yes! Old Ben Kenobi!

This actually is my prediction.

I think Rey is the GRAND DAUGHTER of Ben Kenobi!

It’s just a crazy theory but I don’t know, I think it’s very possible.

I think it has something to do with her vision that she has after touching Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber.

Well, I’ll elaborate in a future post!

Until then, I’d love to know what you think!

Leave a comment and let me know!

Initial Reaction on The Force Awakens

Happy Holidays everyone!

It’s been a while since my last post but I assure you, I have returned.

I wanted to give everyone a good 10 days before I wrote anything TFA related just to ensure I didn’t spoil anyone’s experience with the movie.

So, lets dive into it.

Initial Reaction

Like many devote Star Wars fans, I saw the movie on opening night.

I was beyond excited and it was heartwarming to see this again…

300pxa_long_time_ago.jpg

As I watched the movie, I was attempting to mentally piece together the plot, what was to come and decipher everything I was seeing.

Instead, I found myself losing out on the main point, taking everything in and enjoying it.

After the movie ended, honestly I was not completely impressed.

I thought of The Force Awakens as average to slightly above.

If I were to rate the movie I would have given it a 2 1/2 stars out of 4 and if I was feeling rather generous, maybe 3 out of 4.

But honestly, I think the loss of a certain character had me feeling down.

hqdefault.jpg

To put it more bluntly, I was devastated.

I’ve written here before that I expected Han or Luke to die but to actually see it is well, heartbreaking!

I left the theater that night shaking my head.

I was upset that one of the greatest characters in movie history was no longer with us.

This might be a little pathetic but it almost felt like I lost a close family member!

Nonetheless, there are other distinctions throughout the movie that made me question TFA.

Now I’m an extremely optimistic person and I have unconditional love for Star Wars but to put it modestly I wasn’t all that impressed with the soundtrack either.

The main theme song for the movie that we hear in the third trailer was absent and I thought that was a big swing and a miss by JJ Abrams.

That song provided emotion, intrigue, fear and wonder.

With it being left out, things felt rather different.

But none of these differences come close to the major problem I had with the movie…

WHY IS LUKE BARELY IN THE MOVIE!?

Hear me out here…

I understand the story line very well.

I understand the point of his absence.

I also understand how his disappearance plays into the plot.

But it still brings me back to this…

Luke IS Star Wars.

Without having him in the movie without a doubt hurt its appeal.

Change of Heart

After thinking things through over the next couple days, something extraordinary happened.

I was craving to see the movie again.

What’s more, I was repeating lines throughout my days and reminiscing the awesome scenes that the movie brought us.

I was warming up to the movie!

Four days later, I went back to the theater and re-watched The Force Awakens.

At the end of the viewing, the results were exceedingly different.

I fell in love with the movie!

And you know what did it for me?

THIS GUY

kylo-ren-header.jpg

Kylo Ren is rapidly moving up the board in my mind of most favorite villains in Star Wars.

I loved EVERYTHING about this character….everything.

The fact that his talents with the force were so intensely powerful yet so underdeveloped and raw is prophetic and powerful, figuratively and literally.

kylo_ren_fest_1050_591_81_s_c1.jpg

When Ren stopped Poe’s shot in mid-air…I was literally speechless!

I have never seen a more awe-inspiring and astonishing use of the force.

That whole scene was pure brilliance.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the repeated use of the force for interrogation purposes.

That was awesome and a very cool feature..especially when Rey flipped the script on him.

As for his lightsaber, it’s easily my favorite lightsaber throughout the Star Wars franchise.

IMG_2920

The best way I can describe it is pure crackling energy that looks like the surface of the sun as flames are leaping about.

It’s fantastic!

He also has the option of activating the blade and the hand guards at once or the blade and then the hand guards.

That was a feature that I thought was very unique and great.

But above all, what I like about Kylo Ren the most is his voice.

Similar to his Grandfathers’, Ren’s voice is evil-sounding, bizarre and fear-inspiring.

JJ Abrams hit an absolute home run with the aesthetics of Kylo Ren.

I would give his character an easy 10/10 in creativity, the gravitation towards him and sheer awesomeness.

His personality was spectacular as well.

As I’m sure he is supposed to, his mannerisms were very similar to Anakin.

What jumps out at me the most is when he fights Rey and Finn near the end while he’s injured from an earlier well placed shot from Chewie’s bowcaster.

As Ren engages Finn in lighsaber combat, he repeatedly smacks his right side which is dripping blood.

I though that was awesome.

What that says to me is this guy is a warrior who doesn’t allow any distractions to tarnish his chances in achieving what he believes is his.

It also screams how much he delves into his emotions.

Ren would not allow his opponents the satisfaction of knowing he is injured (even if it wasn’t caused by them specifically) if he didn’t have a fiery personality with unpredictable emotion.

That’s my take on Kylo Ren, one of the most incredible characters in Star Wars.

The Verdict

I will be seeing The Force Awakens again on Monday.

It’s going to be my third time but I think it’s worth noting that this movie must be seen more than once.

Maybe even more than twice.

Look, there are a lot of small pieces that you could easily miss that play a major role in the film’s significance.

I strongly recommend you give this movie another shot, regardless of what you thought of it.

In the end, I have changed my rating and would now give TFA a 3 1/2 out of 4 stars.

The simple fact that Luke wasn’t in the movie till the end prevents me from giving it a perfect 4/4.

But still, the movie was wonderful.

I’ve only scratched the surface on how I felt or what I saw.

Stay tuned for more posts on the review of how my predictions for the movie went as well as future posts on many many subjects regarding The Force Awakens.

May the force be with you.

The Calm Before The Storm

Ladies and gentlemen, tomorrow at midnight, in about 28 hours, The Force Awakens will hit theaters in the United States.

From the very beginning of its inception, us devoted fans have patiently waited for the most anticipated movie of recent memory.

Well, the wait is finally over as people everywhere can rejoice in serene happiness.

Now it’s time to get down to business…

It’s time to make some predictions.

Don’t worry these are not spoilers, just friendly guesses.

So without further ado, here we go!

  • Poe Dameron will be introduced to Rey and Finn in a rescue attempt.

Star-Wars-7-Trailer-3-Poe-Dameron-Torture.jpg

JJ Abrams told us “history repeats itself”. With that subtle hint, I think it is fairly reasonable for Rey and Finn to save Poe from the clutches of The First Order.

And thus all three meeting each other for the first time.

Of course we’re all familiar with how Luke and Han first encountered Leia.

Therefore, I could see Rey and Finn discovering Poe in similar fashion.

The scene in the trailers where Kylo Ren appears to be interrogating/torturing Poe is what got me thinking.

Reminiscent of Leia and Vader right?

Very interesting.

  •  The ending will leave a main character severely injured.

Finn-Lightsaber-770x442

From Anakin losing his arm, Anakin losing his other arm and legs…to Luke losing his arm, I think this is a major possibility.

Star Wars likes to have injury represent growth and maturity in characters.

It would be no different in this respect.

Wouldn’t it make sense to see Finn lose a battle with Kylo Ren and end up without his right hand?

After all, Luke lost the same hand after his first bout with Vader.

Will history repeat itself?

  • One of the original three will die.

8074d9f76c7417071501c8282aecbb83.jpg

Look…this is painful to write about.

I don’t want to see one of these guys be lost forever but I don’t know, something feels like it’s a strong possibility.

From Harrison Ford being a lot older to Luke being mysteriously absent in every single trailer, something is out of place.

But the clue that gave me the biggest hint for this prediction was this…

3b4ChV3

I don’t know what it means and you know what? I’ll just leave it at that.

With such a touching subject so near and dear to all Star Wars fan’s hearts, this one sure is painful.

If this prediction does come true, well, it will be a tough pill to swallow…that’s for sure.

I hate to end on a sad note but I hope you all take solace in knowing that no matter what happens, “The force will be with you, always”.

Tomorrow night is when it all goes down.

Will Luke Follow In Ben’s Footsteps?

As we count down the days until The Force Awakens is finally amongst us, I will be writing about interesting theories surrounding some of the main characters.

Today is Luke.

star_wars_luke_skywalker_tatooine_desktop_1024x768_hd-wallpaper-791072.jpg

Yesterday I heard something very interesting that JJ Abrams said regarding TFA.

History repeats itself“.

Interesting.

Now before you jump to conclusions and imagine Luke donning the suit of his father and the breathing apparatus with his crimson blade, think a little deeper.

When we were first introduced to the young and restless Luke Skywalker, he was a kid that was lost at heart, desperately searching for a new direction.

Who provided him with the path that inevitably brought him to be one of the most legendary Jedi of all time?

The great Ben Kenobi.

1160171_1356619871413_full

We all know how Kenobi got to Tatooine and why he was looking after Luke but there’s something else.

It’s quite obvious that he played a major role, more than any other character in making Luke progress as a man and as a Jedi.

With that being said, this is where we come full circle.

Remember that JJ Abrams quote I said earlier? Well, doesn’t it make sense that Luke is to take on the mentoring role for Finn as Obi-Wan did for him?

I mean, once again it’s extremely obvious that the answer is yes but in order to come full circle, all of the events that occurred with Ben must take place…

hqdefault.jpg

As Ben took on Vader in that fateful moment, he knew what the outcome was to be.

He knew what was going to happen long before Vader had the slightest clue.

My intention in stating that is this: could it be possible that Luke follows this path? The EXACT way Obi-Wan took??

If you don’t know what I’m inferring by now I’ll spell it out to you…

Will Luke die in a sacrificial manner to save Finn in The Force Awakens?

To me it doesn’t seem all that crazy of a statement.

The two ways I could see this not happening however is if one, Luke does turn to the Dark Side and two, he practically IS Star Wars after all.

You can read into JJ Abrams comments all you want but we’ll never know until we actually see the movie to know exactly what he’s talking about.

I could be on to something here or I could be taking you all for a ride!

At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.

It seems we’re all at a breaking point where we’re just imagining storylines and plot twists that are as insane as Queen Amidala’s clothing choices!

escape13.jpg

Nonetheless, we’re another day closer people.

As it has always been, excitement is yet again, an understatement.

Han’s Fate To Be Decided In TFA?

As we enter the final days of intense anticipation for The Force Awakens, the excitement has never been stronger.

For today’s post, I thought it would be prudent to discuss the future of a character who’s been around the block a time or two.

One of the world’s favorite characters…ever…Han Solo.

Although it doesn’t feel like it, it has been 32 years since we’ve seen Harrison Ford on the big screen encapsulating everything we know of Han Solo.

From his bad boy attitude to his blunt and hard hitting quips, Han Solo is the best.

Unfortunately, the sun sets on all of us eventually…

Now with that being said, does that mean this is finally THAT time!?

han-solo.jpg

Well, excuse the corny humor and of course we don’t know for sure but I’ll tell you one thing, there’s a bit of truth to this.

In the last couple months, there has been talk regarding Ford and his involvement in Star Wars.

If you recall, Ford famously tried to convince George Lucas at the end of Return of the Jedi to kill off Han…

But what does that say for his fate in TFA?

I would speculate that things could take a turn for the worst for our favorite smuggler across the Galaxy.

You have to look at it from a logical point of view.

For starters, Harrison Ford is getting up in his years now that he is 73 years old.

620601ef065081dbae10859be7c7f33b.jpg

The character of Han Solo is not a “sit back and relax” type of guy as well.

No, he’s a man of action, someone who gets it done. With his hands, with his behavior, not with his mind.

As Ford continues to get up in the years, I honestly feel like it would be tough for him to continue to play his role.

With that being said, things start to fall in place if you’re thinking this could be it for Han.

And actually, that might be what Ford wants.

After all, Harrison Ford has never really embraced the Star Wars universe in terms of really being a “fan”.

When asked to explain his reasoning on why he thought Han Solo should be killed, Ford explained, “I thought it would be good that the character, if he sacrificed himself in some noble way.”

I have to agree with him there.

I could definitely see something along those lines occur.

Now would I be happy about it? Absolutely not! But sometimes a sacrificial death for the greater good is what legends are made of.

And make no mistake about it, Han Solo is a legend.

Han-Solo-Old.jpg

I guess the fate of our good ol’ buddy Han will have to wait.

But not too long.

We’re approximately 75 hours away….

How good does that sound!

Why The Massive Amount Of Star Wars Trailers Was The Right Strategy

As we approach the final stretch until the much anticipated release of The Force Awakens, something comes to mind.

I find it incredibly impressive that the sheer volume of various trailers have not impeded on the plot.

I mean, think about it…there are literally dozens of individual trailers.

Yet we know so very little of what is going to happen on the big screen.

That’s impressive right?

I’ve always noted in past blockbuster releases that two trailers and sometimes three are too much, and here we are STILL receiving new footage on TFA.

So how is that possible?

It’s quite simple actually.

Disney has designed their marketing and advertising campaign on the exploitation of the fan’s imagination.

In other words, because The Force Awakens is so highly anticipated, instead of revealing what is to happen they simply need to show meaningless footage of characters.

And that’s absolutely fine with us!

AP_kylo_ren_star_wars_jt_150902_16x9_992

What I mean by this is simple.

We don’t want to know what’s going to happen beforehand and although there might be rumors swirling around out there, nothing is set in stone.

Because Star Wars is so deeply predicated on the honorable heroes and the infamous villains, Disney is allowing the appearances of new and old characters lead the wave of excitement.

Think about this.

What was the major takeaway in the first trailer released?

Two things…the return of the Millennium Falcon and the enticing aesthetics of Kylo Ren’s lightsaber.

That’s all!

Now think about movies like Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla for example.

Leading up to film’s premiere, there were three trailers.

Not a dozen or so like Star Wars yet just from those three little trailers, we learned so much on what the plot was.

Stuff like that ruins enthusiasm for major movies.

Make that ANY movie.

That is exactly why Disney and Star Wars is a match made in heaven.

74875

Disney is arguably the greatest marketing conglomerate that we have ever seen.

Say what you want about their insatiable desire of releasing animated movies based around singing animals or princesses, they rake in the dough.

Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises not only in the United States but the world.

Now when you combine the two, you have a perfect recipe of intrigue and commotion.

Just the sound of Kylo Ren’s voice heck just footage of Ren himself is enough to get fans excited!

That right there is what is so darn impressive.

It’s one thing to release a bunch of trailers that don’t reveal a lot yet give fans exactly what they’re looking for but when you realize this and push the envelope to the point of instituting this strategy in mass quantity, you hit a new level of greatness.

maxresdefault.jpg

Quite frankly, this is exactly why I believe the campaign Disney has put together to market and advertise The Force Awakens is the clear-cut best performance of recent memory.

In a time where demand is so great and selfishness is often present, it’s nothing short of a miracle that nothing has been leaked regarding the film as well!

That JJ Abrams runs a tight ship!

We’re so close now that I have dreams of Star Wars-laden adventures every night…

CAN’T.WAIT.

Star Wars Rebels and the Emotions Of Ezra Bridger

Tonight’s episode of Star Wars Rebels was chock-full of scenes that hit us all right in the feels.

From hope to excitement to worry to despair, tonight had it all.

Poor Ezra.

He just can’t win.

Of course what I’m referring to is the news we learn, the closure to his long search…

Yes, Ezra’s parents are dead.

Ezra's_parents!.PNG

Sad times for us all indeed.

But as I watched this episode, something else jumped out at me. Something I’ve been saying for a long time now…

There is such an eerie similarity between Ezra and Anakin.

12201030_10208058774610518_720951979_n

A scene that was very telling tonight was when Ezra tapped into his anger and allowed it to propel him in the fight against the stormtroopers and Agent Kallus.

This should be such a major red flag to Kanan that it should be practically glowing!

Now I’m not saying Ezra is going to go around and kill younglings but…tonight was very telling.

The fact is, young Mr. Bridger has a lot of pent-up anger just seething and dwelling within him.

He hates the Empire and with good reason too.

Nonetheless, this is troubling.

I don’t know what his eventual fate will be but doesn’t it feel like it wouldn’t be too surprising if Ezra fell to the Dark Side?

Once again like Anakin, the roots of his past have been ripped up, he experiences terrible pain due to his attachment to his parents and his emotions seem to control him at times.

Unfortunately, those “times” seem to be during dire moments such as during the heat of battle.

Remember when Ezra and Kanan were battling it out with the Grand Inquisitor and Ezra, by himself this time, calls upon the Dark Side of the Force?

untitled-1.jpg

Well that’s entirely what I’m talking about…

The boy is too unstable.

If I didn’t know what the Galaxy looked like five years later, I’d assume this kid is destined to be a Sith.

But hey, who knows.

I guess someday we’ll see his inevitable destination…

Where Did All the Star Wars Video Games Go!?

From 1999 to approximately 2008, there were dozens and dozens of Star Wars video games out in circulation.

From Star Wars Battlefront to Star Wars Republic Commando, these games were filled with epic fun.

But as Lucasfilm began to slow down, so did Lucasarts.

For those who don’t know, after Disney’s purchase of Star Wars in 2012, things began to take a turn for the worst for Lucasarts.

Sadly, it was announced in May of 2013 that Electronic Arts would assume the mantle of developing and creating Star Wars video games.

This ended Lucasarts multi-decade run.

However, Lucasarts continued to develop mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.

screen5_large.jpg

But enough of the technical stuff, let’s get down to business.

So, why has Star Wars video games seen a major lack of production and business??

Well, I think there are multiple angles to this.

First off, I think a Star Wars game, before it’s even created has a pristine reputation of greatness and awesomeness.

In other words, people are going to buy this game and they are going to expect an excellent product.

Sadly, Star Wars video games have not done so well as of late.

The Force Unleashed games were crushed by critics, Battlefront II came out in 2005 (long 10 year gap to the Battlefront game released last month) and let’s face it, when was the last time a GOOD Star Wars game even came out!?

Jedi-Outcast-sabre-laser.jpg

Look, I liked The Force Unleashed but I wasn’t crazy about it.

There was just something about it that felt un-Star Warsy…

You see my all-time favorite SW games ever are the following..

5. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

Star_Wars_-_Shadows_of_the_Empire_(USA)_(Rev_B)1362760270513a124e6f9d6

The graphics for this game were so poor that it was funny and you know what? I didn’t even care. I loved this game because it was wacky and wild. It was totally out there as in strange things would happen to you. I last played this game over 15 years ago so I’ll be honest with you and say I don’t remember a whole lot. With that being said, what I do remember is endless adventures of insane fun and laughter-filled action.

4. Star Wars: Rogue Squadronn64_sw_rogue_squadron_cart.JPG

Where do I even start? This game was filled to the brim with action. There were unfair dogfights that would always end in me being so upset when my X-wing was shot down. But that’s what makes the game so much fun. It wasn’t easy, in fact I remember I was incredibly terrible at the game! Nonetheless, I deeply enjoyed it. I remember trying to take down AT-AT’s on Hoth, trying to save General Reiken from Imperial bombers and dogfighting it out on Tatooine. Awesome game, I miss it dearly.

3. Star Wars: Republic Commando

123553-star-wars-republic-commando-windows-screenshot-title-screens.jpg

Just the other day I was playing this one. Republic Commando is not just one of the greatest Star Wars games but in my opinion, it’s up there with one of the best games EVER. The reason being, I’ve never seen any glitching throughout the game. Another reason being,  when you, as a squad leader issue commands to your team, they ALWAYS listen as they would in real life. Also, it’s so much fun seeing what the beginning of the Clone Wars on Geonosis were like. I still talk to my friends to this day on how awesome this game was and it was released all the way back in 2005!

2. Star Wars: Jedi Outcast

Jedi_Outcast_pc_cover.jpg

This game had the best multiplayer game of any Star Wars game…ever. No, I’m not talking about online action but against computers. You could even play splitscreen with a buddy as you take on 14 computer players. The lightsaber combat is one of a kind (even today), the force powers are awesomely accurate and that’s not even the best part of the game! Jedi Outcast has the greatest story mode out of any game I’ve ever played. From Kyle Katarn starting off as a non-force user to slowly but surely regaining his powerful abilities of the force, this game was awesome.

1. Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2

Hands down best Star Wars games ever. The combat was like nothing else, no other game to this day has been able to match the intense, thrilling way each battle was carried out. The maps in both of these games were insane. They were all so accurate that it’s mind boggling that they were released in 2004 and 2005. Not to mention the graphics. I feel as if this game had better graphics than many today! But the best part of these games was the game mode..yep, you guessed it, Galactic Conquest. I have never played any game in my life, back then and today where I had as much fun. You’re taking over the Galaxy as you fight from one world to the next! What could be better? For this reason alone, this is why the new Battlefront game will never come close to what these two achieved. Shame on you EA and DICE for taking out such a beloved game mode.

2793116-battlefront1.jpeg

Now back to why Star Wars video games have seen a major lack of production and business…

I believe a major part of it today is the fact that people will buy any game out there.

There is such a strong demand for video games that companies just have to put them out there and people will throw money at them.

Think of Madden or Fifa for example…

These games are released every year with very little difference each time.

How does EA get away with this?

People don’t care, they just want the game.

It’s a shame really, I think that that is the central point to this whole Star Wars video game fiasco.

Video game developers don’t want to take on Star Wars games because they’re just too big and too intricate.

But, is there a bright side to all of this? You bet.

Star_Wars_The_Force_Awakens.jpg

I think with The Force Awakens being released, we should finally start to see the dried up riverbed of Star Wars video games begin to replenish.

I’m hoping that Star Wars Battlefront will pave the way and start a long domino effect.

Lord knows we’ve all been waiting!

Three Things I Will Be Looking For in The Force Awakens

Last year on Black Friday, I watched the first The Force Awakens trailer about 50 something times.

I’m not joking. I literally watched it 20 something times in a row after I woke up from my food coma the day before…

I remember later that night I was listening to a Rebel Force Radio podcast  as they broke down every single bit of that 98 second trailer.

Before I continue, if you haven’t heard of the Rebel Force Radio podcast go check it out.

Not only is it extremely insightful but it will most definitely satisfy any Star Wars fan’s appetite for information, knowledge and well, for lack of a better term, coolness!

Anyway, as I listened that night to the RFR guys discuss everything from hidden Easter eggs within the trailer to predicting what the movie will look like, it got me thinking…

My first thoughts that night were about that mysterious red lightsaber-wielding figure.

At first, many fans were skeptical. They had never seen a lightsaber like this one, aesthetically speaking.

But not me, from the moment I was introduced to Kylo Ren’s character, I was hooked.

Well, my thoughts back to that night are still the same today.

The first item I’ll be looking for in The Force Awakens is who exactly is Kylo Ren?

star-wars-episode-7-midichlorians-kylo-ren-and-fan-confusion-in-the-force-awakens-upd-469674.jpg

We know he has some connection to the Sith, that part is clear enough.

But I want to know more, much more.

For starters, where is he from? Why and how is he on the Empire’s side…or is he?

And most importantly, what is his fascination with Vader mean?

Let’s face it, this guy is bad ass.

He reminds me a lot of Darth Maul.

The way Maul carried himself as he strutted around is very synonymous with Kylo Ren.

I look forward to finding out more about this walking mystery.

The second item I’ll be looking for in The Force Awakens is Rey and Finn and their force sensitivity.

Is Rey a force user? Is Finn?

We’ve seen Finn engage adversaries with his lightsaber on multiple occasions throughout the trailers so it might be a safe bet so say he is force sensitive.

But Rey? We just don’t know yet…

I’m inclined to think that both of them are indeed force sensitive.

But I’m not quite sure how that could be feasible for the storyline however.

Another thing that strikes me is how young Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are.

Both are 23 but I don’t know, they just look younger!

Now I’m not saying that’s a bad thing at all but it just will be interesting to see where they both end up since this is just the beginning of their journey in a galaxy far, far away.

The third item I’ll be looking for in The Force Awakens is Luke and what is his ultimate destiny?

star-wars-mark-hamill.jpg

I saved the best for last here.

Luke is what stirs the pot of curiosity for me.

For starters, where the heck is he and what does it mean that he’s not front and center in the trailers….

Could the golden boy of the Star Wars franchise really make the unfathomable choice and join the Dark Side!?

REALLY!?

What’s more, how does Luke perceive the potential Jedi in Finn and/or Rey?

Will he take on a lovingly and kind embrace such as Ben Kenobi did with him?

Or will he take the wait and see approach and be more along the lines of Yoda?

It’s going to be truly captivating to see Luke Skywalker back on the big screen, especially with Han and Leia.

Man, I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

How about a Rated “R” Star Wars Movie?

I know what you’re thinking…crazy right?

It would never happen?

Well, I get the marketing dynamics of an R rating for a Star Wars film but for this post, think of strictly entertainment value and what that rating could bring with it.

Throughout all six Star Wars films, only one was NOT rated PG.

That one film was Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

But regardless, what would be the point of an R rated Star Wars film you might ask?

Well, think about this.

The iconic image of Star Wars is two interlocking lightsabers.

Normally one is a crimson red and the other a vibrant blue or an enchanting green.

But besides the color, the idea each combatant has within each saber bout is to maul their enemy.

Well, in the films, besides maybe a loss of limb or maybe the very rare decapitation, normally the battle results in a impaled-type of a result.

So if one of the films were rated R, I believe you’d see a different type of ending.

First off, these weapons are laser swords. Their abilities to hack and mutilate would truly be explored.

I think there would be a lot more gruesome deaths. Something that you’d see in reality with such a weapon.

Remember that scene where Anakin cut off both of Dooku’s hands and then eventually lopped off his head as well?

Well with an R rating, Star Wars deaths would be more and more similar as this one.

I mean, let’s face it. A lighsaber is a powerful yet grisly weapon.

It takes little effort for the energy blade to slice through human flesh.

Now in an actual bout, well, there’s a lot more effort than just a little…

Thank god for the cauterizing abilities a lightsaber induces.

Without it, you might see a bunch of entrails piling up under the massive incisions…

Yea…not a pretty sight.

Love Scenes

Now there’s not many love scenes in Star Wars but the one glaring and fairly obvious one is between Anakin and Padme.

I’m not saying that this is something I would necessarily be advocating for, but I think it would add a certain culture of identity for their relationship.

Before I continue, I do also want to add that I thought George Lucas’ portrayal of their kindling of their relationship in the early days (while Anakin and Padme were hiding out on Naboo) was shown perfectly.

Lucas basically showed the enticement between the two while staying within the parameters of a PG rated movie.

Nonetheless, if the film was rated R well, I think things would get awfully steamy.

Sexual encounters and the prevalence of passion between characters would be numerous.

Scenes of love would be fully exposed to their fullest meaning.

But alas, the films remained PG and PG-13 which in Luke and Leia’s case….might be a great thing.

Yikes!

True Intentions of Torture and Treatment

When I first thought of this subject, this is what I was thinking about.

The Sith are ruthless and relentless.

Just imagine what would have been shown if they had no restrictions.

You see, Darth Sidious comes immediately to the forefront when I begin thinking of this.

His treatment of those who wronged him would not be so subtle.

Such as Luke at the end of ROTJ when he tortures the young Jedi with his force lightning.

Now I could be wrong on this.

Sidious is a man of elegance and efficiency.

He might be okay with injuring Luke with his force abilities so I think I’ll brush him aside and bring in the next subject, Vader.

Remember this scene?

If the movie was rated R, you think he’d just choke his enemies and just leave it at that? Definitely not.

Vader would have all of his adversaries feel his pure hatred and endure his wrath.

You ever see Game of Thrones?

If you have, you might be familiar with the scene where Oberyn Martell is horrifyingly killed by The Mountain…

maxresdefault.jpg

If a Star Wars film was rated R, I definitely think you’d see a lot more of deaths like this.

After all, Vader is bigger than The Mountain…

Endgame

Unfortunately for all us Star Wars fans that would like to see the fights and stories played out with no restrictions, there’s just no way a film like this would ever be rate R.

From the lack of movie-goers to the loss in sales, everything leads back to money and Star Wars would be losing out.

But hey, we can always imagine right?

Until next time Star Wars fans.
