What To Expect In The New Rogue One Trailer

With the Star Wars Celebration taking place in London this week, we will get another look at Rogue One.

This Friday on ABC a one hour special titled  “Secrets of the Force Awakens” will air and at some point in that broadcast we will get a look at the next Rogue One trailer.

But what will we see?

Besides the storyline of Resistance efforts to steal the Empire’s plans for the Death Star, there’s very little known on what exactly we can expect.

The first trailer gave us some epic shots of awesomeness and some new characters, but besides that we’re still very much in the dark.

Before I continue I want to first say that Disney is the absolute best at keeping movie details under wraps until the films are released.

For instance, with The Force Awakens we all had no clue what was going to happen.

I would expect the same with RO.

Before you start to think of what will be seen in the next trailer, it’s important to see the parallels with TFA.

The second TFA trailer was released last in April 2015 during the Star Wars celebration in California.

As you can see, the trailer had almost nothing of substance.

Normally I would suggest the same thing will occur with RO’s next trailer but you know what? I don’t think that’s the case.

With the TFA, things were different. We all knew the six Star Wars movies like the back of our hands.

We were searching and craving for any little snippet of picture time that showcased our favorite characters and vigorously searched far and wide for any plot twists.

That’s exactly why the trailers for the movie were so vanilla. They were released knowing that the public would eat up anything Star Wars related.

But as I said earlier with RO, there’s very little known information on what is to come.

That brings me to my next point. Because there’s a real lack of knowledge, I fully expect to see something mind blowing, something that we will be talking about for months to come.

What could that exactly be?Maybe more screen time for the man in the white cape?  What about a demonstration of sheer might from the Empire? Or maybe an appearance of Darth Vader!?

All of these possibilities would be pretty epic but the last one is what I’m hoping for.

But on the realistic side of things I’m not sure exactly if that would really happen.

Would it make sense for RO to show their biggest and most popular character in only the second trailer?

Honestly I’m not sure.

With TFA, probably the biggest takeaway was the deformed helmet of Darth Vader and the hearing of Luke’s voice.

Looking back that was pretty major considering Kylo Ren is Luke’s nephew and the second trailer clearly foreshadowed that pretty big nugget with Luke’s line of “The Force is strong in my family.”

It’s almost a sure bet we will see something similar in this trailer with RO considering that Disney is very high on symmetry.

But think about it. What else do you want to see in RO that has not been mentioned before.

I know what I would want and that’s an appearance of the Emperor.

u66UMpO7.jpg

It would definitely make sense. With the amount of resources the Empire sunk into the Death Star and the amount of importance it holds for them, you would expect the top man to be around right?

I do believe Palpatine will be in RO but my one concern is I’m not sure if he will be in the second trailer or even the third.

It might be showing your cards too early and when it comes to Star Wars, rookie mistakes like that are never made.

You ever see a trailer for a movie like a Marvel Comics superhero flick where it feels like it’s 35 minutes long and by the time it’s over you’re almost under the impression that you just saw all the good parts??

Yea well Star Wars doesn’t have that ridiculousness…

Star Wars decision makers do it right and something they are absolutely famous for is not revealing anything too important.

I do believe RO is a different animal because it is so new but I wouldn’t be that surprised if we do see something pretty spectacular in the trailer since I’m sure they’re wanting to build up the buzz.

In the end, what will we see?

Main characters of other previous films? Possibly.

Parts of intense fighting scenes? Probably.

Could their be some hints leading to something major? I fully expect it.

All I know is I’m excited for Friday.

RO will be fantastic and I just can’t wait to learn more.

The Significance Of The Empire’s Depiction In Rogue One

On this day of independence, we as Americans reflect on what it means to be free from oppression and injustice.

With that being said, today got me thinking about the Empire and how their portrayal in Rogue One should play out.

EmperorPalpatine-TCGCoreSet.png

For starters, Rogue One is supposed to have a much darker look to it compared to the past seven Star Wars films.

Now understand this: We know of the Empire to be overbearing, controlling, cruel and manipulative.

But besides some scenes like Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru’s death and the obliteration of Alderaan, we have seen relatively few depictions of the Empire’s oppressive nature.

RO should change that. Right from the start we need to see the decimation of civilians, of the common folk.

So far in all films we’ve seen military targets and Rebel Alliance members in the cross hairs of the Empire, but where’s the foul treatment to the everyday people?

Star Wars Rebels did a fantastic job in showing what everyday life is like living under the Empire.

But to see it on the big screen? Now that would be spectacular.

You might be asking yourself, “Who cares? What does it matter how the people of the land get treated.”

Well, it’s important and I’ll tell you why.

First, horrid treatment and oppressive regimes always build up enough anger and hatred amongst the people that actions are taken.

We know what the end result is in Star Wars of course but the beginning is so vital for the story because it shows us how cruelty and blatant greed emanating from a crooked government did them in in the end.

Second, we get to see why the war between the Empire and the Rebels started.

Of course we know why, I mean it’s a state bred on fear within the Empire!

But we will get to see the incidences on a small level. The local injustices, those who lost their land just because some governing Moff wanted more property or a village shot up and burned down because they didn’t accept the totalitarian rule.

Lastly, the response of the state.

With the news of Darth Vader returning, we have our executioner.

13598892_10209989920407956_223477944_n%20(1)

The Grand Moff Tarkin once said  “We will crush the Rebellion with one swift stroke.”

The parallels between this line and the image of Vader’s lightsaber flashing as he cuts down Rebel after terrified Rebel are very telling.

You see, the Empire doesn’t play any games.

Sure they don’t want people to see them as they absolutely cripple their enemies with sheer brute force but you know what? This is their world, we’re just living in it.

RO must show this side of The Empire.

It is so very key that we see the crushing hatred of the Empire spewing out and being forced upon all who live under their reign.

We also must see The Empire as an unstoppable force mutilating the enemy.

These two ingredients will make RO a special movie.

Let’s take the political correctness out of Star Wars and let’s show what happens when a band of Rebels steps up against tyranny of a fire-breathing monster in The Empire.

Official Sith Pacify Power Rankings: #1

The 1st and top character for the Official Sith Pacify Power Rankings is…Anakin Skywalker!

Anakin Skywalker Overall = 99

For this case, I consider this version of Anakin Skywalker to be the man before he donned the suit.

He is the chosen one, he is what the prophecy speaks of, he is the greatest.

From the very first time Anakin Skywalker was introduced to us, we knew he was beyond special.

With the highest midi-chlorian count ever recorded in a force-user, Skywalker had the necessary foundation to launch himself to supreme dominance of cataclysmic proportions.

With fluidity and poise matched with never ending potential, Anakin was a light that was brighter than any other.

Yet with all his prowess, he was constantly tormented with relentless demons.

At the center of perfect irony, Skywalker was forced to make difficult choices. Choices that he would always regret.

From leaving his mother behind on Tatooine to struggling with his connection to Padmé as well as his undying quest to prove himself, Anakin Skywalker’s life would continue the trend of ups and downs.

But with all his pain he continued to progress in his abilities.

Day after day, week after week, Anakin’s command of the Force paired with his athleticism was truly eye opening.

Unfortunately for Anakin because of his lacky of humility and eccentric personality, his progress was met with cautious apprehension amongst his peers.

Always looking to be appreciated and loved Anakin inevitably fell in with the wrong crowd.

Of course it’s easy for us to say, considering Palpatine came across as nothing but a genuinely sweet and caring elderly man, he would inevitably be the final nail in the coffin that would be Anakin Skywalker and the birth of Darth Vader.

Characteristics

  • Athletic Ability (Strength, 100/100)- Perhaps only rivaled by his own son, no one could reach the heights of Anakin when it came to the feats that his body was capable of. Lean muscle absolutely pulsating with tremendous ability, strength, speed and power were all powerful tools that the young man was able to call upon. Even at such a young age he was keeping pace with legendary, grizzled Jedi veterans with little to no effort. The skill set of Anakin’s wasn’t unique, it was his age with his skill set that made him unique. It just goes to show, the talented Anakin Skywalker was one of a kind.
  • Force Unleashed (Strength, 100/100)- Characters like Yoda or the Emperor might have had more discipline or knowledge of the Force but it’s those like Anakin who are the most unpredictable and deadly. You know how some people have different levels of how hard they are battling? As in they’re about to “go into an extra gear”? Well Skywalker had no ceilings or limitations. Even when he didn’t know exactly what he was doing, he could still call upon the Force and unleash hell on anything that stood in his path to what he desired.
  • Art of the lightsaber (Strength, 100/100)- As if the very weapon was an extension of himself, Anakin’s mastery of a lightsaber is the epitome of impressive. His dazzling performances on the battlefields of the Clone Wars made the bloody conflict look almost like a performance of a musical presentation. The flowing light of the weapon, the gracefulness mixed with violent hammering was a thing of beauty. Also, because he was so physically gifted, he could truly call upon any form and dominate. That’s pretty rare, but when you find out it’s Anakin Skywalker who owns that ability, it’s almost expected.
  • Gift of Influence (Strength, 98/100)- Skywalker had the ability that allowed everyone around him to rise to the occasion. In the thick of battle Anakin just made those around him better. Through his energy and constant heart, his allies would subconsciously put in the extra effort and turn the dynamic of the team around from an already force to be reckoned with to an unstoppable wave. That’s what the great ones do, they allow those around them to grow and make no mistake, Anakin is the greatest.
  •  Emotional Ties (Weakness, 0/100)- As if it was a terminal illness, Anakin was the epitome of an emotional being. As I stated earlier, the losses of his mother, his embattled relationship between Padmé and the Jedi as well as his friendship with the Supreme Chancellor would eventually be his undoing. There was no escaping it. The moment young Skywalker, looking disheveled as ever, walked away from his mother on his home planet of Tatooine, a ticking time bomb initiated. His relentless search for love, belonging and appreciation would prove to be too much in the end as he would ultimately be consumed by his thirst for power and practically self destruct.
  • Youth and Ignorance (Weakness, 15/100)- To understand this weakness in Anakin’s character you have to look at him as a whole. He was a young teenager who was thrown into a position of real power and importance as he entered the Clone Wars. Never lacking confidence Anakin did his best and tried his hardest to always succeed. Of course someone as young as he was was bound to eventually fail. Now when this failure arrived, Anakin did not have the mental maturity to look at it as natural and inevitable. Instead he pushed himself to never fail, never lose and never be anything but the best. The effect this mindset had on Skywalker was devastating. Because Anakin knew and understood how exceptional he was, he was no stranger to insubordination. In fact, the young Jedi was often at odds with his superiors or just authority in general. Never able to appreciate his greatness as well as failing to follow simple orders, this was a recipe for disaster.

Intangibles

  • Rage (Strength/Weakness, 95/100)- Even though Anakin belonged to the Jedi, he always belonged more to his own ideals than anything else. Emotion or more specifically anger and hatred is something that is obviously frowned upon within the Order. But with Anakin, when pushed past his limits he would fully give in to his feelings and emotions and he would emerge as a fire-spitting, hate engulfed man hellbent on destroying anything in his way. We saw it when his mother was discovered and dies in his arms, we saw it when he returns to the temple after Order 66 initiates and we see it during his fateful bout with his longtime friend and former Master, Kenobi. The thing is, when Anakin would go into his rage mode, he lost touch with his Jedi side and almost became a rogue symbol of the Force itself. Although it gave him great power and extended his already amazing abilities tenfold, the overconfidence it instilled in him as well as the distorting of his reality might have turned this attribute into a weakness rather than a strength.

Final Word

At long last, the Sith Pacify Power Rankings are complete! To be honest, from the very beginning I had Anakin Skywalker locked in to the number 1 spot. Although I toyed with the idea of having Luke, Yoda and the Emperor at the top, Anakin was the final victor. I look at Anakin Skywalker and see two parts. I see someone who was so immensely powerful. Someone who could have gone on to be a Grand Master of the Jedi Order and not only have gone on to do great things for the Jedi but create a real sense of inclusiveness within the Galaxy. I could see him opening up relations between Force-users and everyday people. Skywalker could have bridged the gap between curious and fear-filled citizens to younglings and Jedi Masters. This would have been tremendous and could very possibly have guaranteed the public’s support for the Jedi and thus making them an all-time stalwart in society. The second part that I see when I look at Anakin is shameful disappointment. He was the most gifted Force-user ever, he was the most athletically inclined Force-user and he was incredibly intelligent! However, with all those abilities, he achieved very little. His record in battle was fantastic and he was of course known as this guy who was one of the best but raw. Yet, so little of his achievements were actually recognized mostly due to the fact that he was in his early 20’s when he left the Jedi Order. With Anakin you get the ultimate tale of irony. Someone who craved attention, who wanted to be loved and respected and when he finally gets what he’s always wanted, he cracks. If there’s one short line you should think of when Anakin Skywalker’s legacy is at hand it’s this: “Oh what could have been.”

Official Sith Pacify Power Rankings: #3

The 3rd character for the Official Sith Pacify Power Rankings is…Darth Sidious!

Darth Sidious Overall = 98

The very epitome of the Dark Side, Darth Sidious is just that.

The perfect mixture of absolute evil and ruthless efficiency, with a side of infinite brilliance is who the Dark Lord is.

There is no being ever…EVER, who has the mental wherewithal as well as the pristine work ethic combined with the sheer desire to be great as Darth Sidious.

The conniving Sidious was destined for greatness from day one.

As a child of a nobleman on Naboo, Sheev Palpatine grew up in a life of luxury.

Palpatine would eventually cross paths with the legendary Darth Plagueis who would take the young Sidious on as his own apprentice.

Fed up with the restraints that was his family, Palpatine brutally murdered his parents as well as his siblings.

You see, Sidious had an intense hunger. A shockingly potent blood thirst that would only end with his death, Sidious would wreak havoc on the Galaxy until the very end.

Darth Nihilus might have been donned the Lord of Hunger but I’d argue that the Dark Lord Darth Sidious would have been a more fitting choice.

When it comes to what you want in a Dark Side acolyte, Darth Sidious is everything and more.

He truly had it all from skill and talent, to decisive action and overwhelming ability.

One might argue…what didn’t he have?

Characteristics

  • Supreme Darkness (Strength, 99/100)- With his ability to control absolutely everything in the Galaxy through sheer wit and mental jousting, authoritative dominance within the Force and the understanding of life itself, Sidious reigned supreme. He is the complete package when you break it down. With his way of having a say in every single factor in a confrontation, a meeting or just everyday life, his use of Dark Side is at the very precipice within the Force.
  • “Vision” (Strength, 99/100)- The Sith Lord that so famously mocked Luke for his lack of vision as he tortured him to his “inevitable” death was blessed with the most capable and dynamic farshight throughout the history of Force-users. Even Yoda’s talent to look into the ever-changing future clouded up as a result of Sidious’ doing. It’s ironic that the Emperor saw visions of Vader bringing Luke before him and yet it ultimately would be his downfall…what a pity. Still, his powerful usage of the skill brought him to his lofty spot on top of the Galaxy.
  • He Who is the Force (Strength, 99/100)- Darth Sidious wasn’t just a high and mighty Force-user, he was the Force-user. At the time of his death, he had practically mastered every facet of his repertoire within the Force. This included his devastating and go-to ability of his Force lightning. With an enormous amount of power and drive behind the crackling electric energy, the unrelenting barrage of blueish light was a certain death sentence. As stated above, he would use his Force lightning not only as an attack but even as a disciplinary measure. His total and utter control over this debilitating tactic is just one example of many on how dominant and deserving the Dark Lord is of being the top ranked Sith.
  •  Intelligence (Strength, 99/100)- Look, this is as clear and blatant as I can be…Darth Sidious, the Emperor, Sheev Palpatine whatever you want to call him, is the most intelligent, sharpest individual and most understanding and witty being throughout Star Wars. The level of his reach permeated every single corner of the Galaxy. With his dark shadow of influence spread throughout, the fun part was all that remained for Sidious as he enjoyed the knowledge of practically everything. I guess that’s what you get when you learn under Plagueis…
  • Overconfidence (Weakness), 90/100)- You might ask why would a trait designated as a weakness be rated so high? Well the very notion of Palpatine’s confidence is what got him to his position of power in the first place! It only failed him in the end…As Luke stated to the Emperor’s face, his overconfidence was most definitely his weakness but you know what? That’s about the man’s ONLY weakness!

Intangibles

  • The Dark in the Light (Strength, 95/100)- From the guttural sounds to the harsh behavior, you can take one look at Sidious’ actions and behavior and immediately suspect the man to be a demon directly spawned from hell. Yet his intense combination of power, mind and position remained the physical calling card of Palpatine. To completely achieve a victory in a plot that ran throughout the very heart of the entire capital of the Republic is completely remarkable. He really was one of a kind.

Final Word

When you think of corruption, who comes to mind? What about total control over everything and everyone? And when you think of someone as a supernatural force? Yea that’s Sidious in a nutshell. His level of success throughout his time alive was miraculous, it was inspiring heck it was completely unheard of! The one individual who has very strikingly similar characteristics and qualities with Sidious is the one that is referred to as the Sith Emperor…Lord Vitiate, Lord Valkorian, whatever you want to call him, he and Palpatine’s roots run on similar paths. Of course the main difference between the two would have to be the longevity of the Sith Emperor’s and the lack there of with Sidious. Vitiate’s reign lasted thousands of years as to Sidious’ mere 23. In the end, you would have to believe that that would be Palpatine’s ultimate regret..the lack of immortality, a gift he greatly desired….

Official Sith Pacify Power Rankings: #21

The 21st character for the Official Sith Pacify Power Rankings is…Ezra Bridger!

Ezra Bridger Overall = 82*

At just 14 years old, young Ezra Bridger begins to make a name for himself.

Similar to those throughout Star Wars who develop into legends, Ezra has a natural feel for the Force from the first time we see him on Star Wars Rebels.

On the Sith Pacify Blog I have made comparisons in the past of Ezra being very similar to Anakin.

If you think deeply about both characters beginnings and their maturation, the similarities are most definitely there.

So what makes this boy from Lothal so compelling?

Let’s find out.

Characteristics

  • Connection to the Force (Strength, 93/100)- Ezra’s limitations of his abilities seem to be pushed back further and further with every passing day. I think what’s most fascinating about his development is his connection to animals. He has a clear bond with living creatures that is very reminiscent of the members of the upper echelon in the Jedi Order.
  • Confidence (Strength, 87/100)- It’s no secret that Ezra possesses certainty and assurance. But I’ll go so far as to say he is just oozing with fearlessness and poise regarding his abilities. Only time will tell if that same positive turns into a very dark negative…
  • Improvisation (Strength, 85/100)- Ezra is at his best when things break down and he is forced to respond to diversity. It seems that for great Jedi Knights, this is a characteristic within all of their repertoires. Now I’m not saying Ezra Bridger is great yet, but there’s no doubt the foundation for greatness is there.
  • Skill (Strength, 86/100)- Whether it’s piloting, lightsaber combat, using the Force, firing on a target or a search and rescue. Ezra is very consistent in almost everything. He is practically above average in every field of conflict. And he’s only going to get stronger.
  • Emotion (Weakness, 70/100)- Sometimes he uses it to his advantage but in the majority of situations, it becomes a liability. It’s quite evident that Ezra is open to losing control due to his free-flying passionate style. As Yoda always says, “Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”Careful Ezra…
  • Undisciplined (Weakness, 73/100)-Unfortunately for Ezra, his Master was only 14 years old when he lost all formal teaching from his own Master. Ezra, now 14 himself, faces an uphill battle towards the path of understanding. He’s no ordinary Force-user, that is clear. But with not being trained in the arts of the Jedi from an extremely young age coupled with the fact that Kanan is only recently a Jedi Knight and extremely inexperienced himself, danger is present.
  • Self-Control (Weakness, 78/100)- Because of his unique circumstances, Ezra is powerful yet very unaware how to even call on the Force at times. We see this repeatedly on Rebels. Dire situations arise and Ezra needs the aid of the Force to survive the circumstances with no response. He clearly is very strong but his knowledge of “how” is lacking.
  • Youth (Weakness, 80/100)- This is a weakness because like I said, Ezra’s lack of experience is partially due to his age. At only 14, Ezra has so much to learn, let alone develop. His maturity will be key as he continues to grow.

Intangibles

  • Potential*(Strength, 95/100)- Ezra Bridger is simmering with power. The Force flows through him at an astonishing rate. The ability to control it 100% of the time still evades him but the fact that he has his moments where it’s all in his grasp is very telling. As for his overall above, the reason why I put an asterisk there is because when he’s immersed in the Force, his powers are almost limitless. When he is in that particular zone, I would say his overall shoots up to 91.
  • Rising to the Occasion (Strength, 88/100)- Just like his potential, Ezra climbs to the precipice of confrontation and lays down the damage that needs to be done. You could say that young Mr. Bridger is “clutch.”
  • Temptation (Weakness, 45/100)- With great power there is great responsibility. If you’ve been following Rebels it’s no secret that the allure of the Dark Side tugs at him. The shroud of darkness that is the Dark Side closes in on Ezra more and more as time goes on. Just like Anakin, will the Emperor gain another potent user of the Force? Or will the Light prevail? Only time will tell.

Final Word

I view Ezra Bridger as someone who wields extreme power, who is true at heart as well as a caring and righteous individual. With that however, there is fear, there is anger and there is revenge within as well. You can see it in his eyes every time he faces off against the Inquisitors or the forces of the Empire. I really don’t know how this story will end but as I said earlier, the similarities with Anakin Skywalker are too strong to ignore. We know how Anakin’s fate is decided but what will the story be for Ezra? At only 14 years old, he has attributes that catch even Darth Vader’s eye! I guess we will just have to wait for the destiny of Ezra to be revealed…

Can You Feel The Hate?

The following is an excerpt from Emperor Palpatine’s personal journal. The entry was entered approximately three months after the overthrowing of the Jedi and the proclamation of the Galactic Empire….

The darkness surrounds me.

I am the darkness.

As I sit here on my throne on the capital of capitals, my mind drifts.

Coruscant is banished, that word no longer exists. To utter that very word is a punishable offense.

Imperial Center is the gem of the Galaxy. It has a fitting ring to it doesn’t it?

Long ago the great Sith Emperor Lord Vitiate renamed his homeworld to Nathema so why can’t I rename the center of the universe?

After all, it is mine isn’t it?

I did eliminate and butcher all those who opposed me right?

All those who rose up and attempted to quell my unquenchable thirst for power met the ax…or soon will.

You see, I am a force that handles power with grace. One who values extreme loyalty more than words can ever describe.

Ah yes, the dark shadows that constantly surround me are effervescent.

Emperor_RotJ

A normal being would succumb to its heinous malevolence but there is nothing normal about me.

I am Darth Sidious, Dark Lord of the Sith.

I am the Sith…

From when I was a little boy on my native planet of Naboo to when I was an aspiring politician traveling the mid-rim, I knew what I was.

Malicious intent was always my forte.

The guise of an elderly and kind man who’s trust was given to by every being in the Galaxy oh how foolish you all were.

You see, it was my plan the entire time to conspire against everyone and anyone.

To inevitably distort every reality as you all knew it.

Even mine.

I would forfeit my secure and lofty seat above the vaunted Republic for something more.

Gamble my good fortune and well being for something more extravagant.

I was already a mere mortal controlling the current situations of man but now I am a God controlling the very existence and destiny of man.

Do you see what I have become?

Do you understand the power that I command?

No, you never will.

It is a gift of vision, a gift that only I exude.

It is my weapon that is sprayed mercilessly throughout my Galaxy.

Death and hate.

Despair and misery.

Anguish and dejection.

There is no hope.

Everything and anything is mine.

Even you.

You are mine.

It is pointless to struggle.

What is done is done.

You all serve me now.

Unlike before where I gained your trust, I will ultimately take your very souls.

The darkness surrounds me and soon it shall surround you too.

The Most Defining Moment of Star Wars

A couple days ago I was rewatching  the main space battles from the original trilogy.

When I got to the Battle of Yavin, I thought of something…

The fate of everything and anything Star Wars related rested upon this fight.

Unlike any other bout or conflict, the Battle of Yavin was the most important military entanglement throughout all of Star Wars.

You might say, well what about the attack on Geonosis? Or what about the battle above Coruscant in which the Supreme Chancellor was taken hostage?

Or what about the Battle of Hoth or even the Battle of Endor?

Nope, I assure you. The Battle of Yavin was the most significant, trumping them all.

Before I begin, I think it is also worth noting that the Star Wars Galactic Timeline is based off of the Battle of Yavin.

All events are classified by the acronym of “BBY” or “ABY”.

Of course these terms simply mean, “Before the Battle of Yavin” and “After the Battle of Yavin” respectively.

That alone shows how categorically significant this battle truly was.

Now, on to the reasoning.

The consequences were never more dire.

Both parties in this instance (the Rebel Alliance and the Empire) practically had a gun to each other’s heads whilst being in a race to pull the trigger.

The Empire was very much aware that there was a weakness and they were vulnerable.

Although the Grand Moff Tarkin famously says, “Evacuate!? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances!” I’m sure he was very much aware of the potential danger.

BastTarkinEvacuate-ANH

As for the Rebels, their situation was much more severe.

At the time of the Death Star’s destruction, the massive structure was preparing to fire down and obliterate Yavin 4.

The Alliance was well aware that they had approximately 15 minutes before the Death Star was in firing range at the beginning of the battle.

Battle_of_Yavin_SWM.jpg

That gave them little to no time to get in position and end this thing, and that was even without a response from within the confines of the mechanical monstrosity!

As the fighting progressed, it was clear that the Alliance fighters had a decisive edge as the Death Star’s defenses were ineffective against the smaller Rebel ships.

I remember reading the novelization of Episode IV in which they described the Empire’s reasoning on the Rebel Alliance assault on the Death Star.

As I recall, the Empire including Tarkin, thought the attack to be useless as they believed their enemy’s goal was to attempt to blast through the impenetrable walling surrounding the Death Star.

At the start, they were out maneuvered as the Rebellion ambushed them from plain sight and engaged in a tactic that they simply were not ready for.

Had the Empire not responded, the Rebel Alliance would have been victorious much sooner than they were.

However, the Empire did respond…and what a powerful response it was.

As Vader enters the space encompassing the Death Star, he and his two supporting pilots wreak havoc and decimate all but the most minuscule of chances the Rebellion has to win the battle.

With the action raging on, Vader’s piloting was the ultimate equalizer in the fight.

After Red Leader’s failed shot at the exposed exhaust port, it was the Dark Lord himself to shot down the last hope of the Rebellion…or so they all thought.

This right here is one of the most pivotal moments throughout Star Wars.

Darth Vader, after depleting the Rebel forces one by one, is now a shot away from victory.

Normally, Vader would sense the impending danger before it even began to materialize.

But this was not a normal moment for Vader.

Something was different and he himself notes this as he says, “The Force is strong with this one.”

That is inconceivably high praise coming from Vader but he also began to see who his opponent was or what he represented.

A streak of pure light, of untarnished surging energy bathed in the Force is what Darth Vader saw as he looked upon his target.

Something was off…

Without warning, the pilot to the right of him was instantly vaporized throwing off the Sith Lord’s focus.

As Vader stared in disbelief in the direction of where the vaporizing shot came from, the fighter to his left did the same.

Unfortunately, the pilot was not nearly as skilled as Vader was and ended up drifting course and clipping the front wing of Vader’s fighter.

THIS is the moment of difference in everything. Throughout ALL of Star Wars, this little moment proved to be the architect for everything that was to come.

It’s simple really.

If Vader’s path was unimpeded, Luke would have been annihilated along with the Rebel base on Yavin 4.

As the Death Star is in range of the Rebel base, Luke Skywalker, one of the newest members of the Rebel Alliance, makes a name for himself.

Without the guidance of his targeting computer, Luke fires away two proton torpedoes which are direct hits.

Now we all know what happens next in the grand scheme of things but the magnitude of what occurred in this moment will never be forgotten.

The lasting effects are colossal.

The Rebel Alliance delivers the immortal Empire a critical hit which cements the Rebellion now as a credible threat.

However, the Empire loses on many levels here.

  • The weapon that has been planned for decades and has cost more than the mind can process is eliminated in the blink of an eye.
  • The Rebellion has now proven they can win and thus will garnish support throughout the Galaxy.
  • One of the greatest military minds the Empire had to offer has been lost. Not only was the Grand Moff proficient in war, he was also one of the Emperor’s most trusted members of his Empire.
  • The Emperor’s reliance on his apprentice has shockingly resulted in a monumental defeat. He will have to rethink his methods and adjust accordingly should the Empire survive.

There you have it.

That’s my take on why Darth Vader almost single-handedly preserved the Death Star which inevitably would have “crushed the resistance once and for all.”

What to Make of the Japanese Trailer

An international trailer was released this week and wow did it deliver. Very similar to the third trailer that was debuted during ESPN’s Monday Night Football, this one seemed to show different angles of that one.

Showing never before seen interactions between BB-8 and Rey as well as the introduction between Rey and Finn.

What was fascinating and maybe a bit of an Easter egg as well was a new line of Kylo Ren’s, “I will fulfill our destiny.”

He apparently says this as he is huddled over the crushed remains of Darth Vader’s helmet.

Clearly Ren is related to a cause of Vader’s which you could point to the obvious and say the Sith.

However, I don’t know if that’s true.

Think about this, if Kylo Ren was heavily involved with the Sith and was following the Dark Side, wouldn’t he “finish what you (Darth Sidious) started” with the Emperor?

We won’t know for sure until December 18th but I have a theory that makes sense.

Maybe not so much theory as to a hunch but I think Kylo Ren’s following in Vader’s footsteps is referring to turning Luke to the Dark Side.

If he is following Vader and what “he started” than my theory makes a lot of sense.

The clear cut spotlight of this trailer had to be the total awesomeness of Kylo Ren’s saber.

Several scenes had a closeup of the blade which showed a much different weapon than any we’ve seen.

Besides the prong-like hilt, the blade itself looks like an unstable jagged flame with destructive purposes.

The climax of the trailer is when Kylo Ren’s lightsaber is at Rey’s neck.

Honestly, I don’t know what this scene is about but I am unbelievably excited to find out.

This new trailer has generated even more energy among the masses as they count down the weeks to this highly anticipated film.

What’s special about the trailer however is the new material it has brought us yet it has done so with very little information being told.

We really know nothing more, that’s the fantastic part of all this.

As I said earlier, it’s almost like the third trailer but from different view points.

Once again, Bravo Disney, another job well done.

Good is a Point of View…or is it?

When I think of the word “good” I think of justice and triumph over evil.

Well, apparently when Chancellor Palpatine thinks of the word, he imagines absolute power and a Galaxy belonging to him.

The scene this post refers to takes place in Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

The setting is at the Galaxies Opera House, one of Palpatine’s favorite venues.

opera_house01

Anakin meets the Chancellor here and thus continues to be corrupted by Palpatine’s propagandist ways.

This brings me to my point.

You see, during this little meeting, the Chancellor and Anakin discuss the Jedi, the Dark Side and even Darth Sidious’ Master, Darth Plagueis.

Palpatine tells Anakin that “All who gain power, are afraid to lose it, even the Jedi”.

Anakin then goes on to defend the Jedi Order saying “The Jedi use their power for good”.

The next line in the conversation is where Palpatine shows his true colors.

His retort to Anakin’s comment is “Good is a point of view Anakin”.

Now to dissect Palpatine’s words is not too difficult. In fact in doing so allows us to see who this man is quite freely.

Normally a man of secrecy, Chancellor Palpatine shows us what he really represents…and it’s not pretty.

Palp_trustme

You see, when it comes to getting what he wants, Palpatine will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

Whether it’s the cold blooded murder of a billion lives on an innocent unsuspecting planet (Alderaan) or the “conform or die” attitude the Empire displays.

This is what he means when he refers to good as a point of view.

In the mind of Palpatine, good means “do anything necessary to get what you want”.

To understand Palpatine’s new order and new Empire, it’s very important to understand this.

Just think about it, do you really think this man thinks it’s a “good” thing to take over the entire Galaxy by force practically enslaving everyone not named Palpatine? Of course not.

He’s a nobleman who is well educated and lived a life of public servitude as a politician.

The irony in it all is that the Jedi Order had it all in front of them the whole time.

If they only trusted Anakin as well as their own intuition, they would have sniffed out the corrupt Republic leader’s plot to overthrow the Jedi and save the Galaxy and all its inhabitants.

WhOlYae

As I write this, another thought comes to mind…

What if Palpatine was right when he was talking about the Jedi?

If you recall back to the duel between Sidious and Mace Windu, as the Jedi Master’s blade is at the Dark Lord’s throat, the Sith says to Anakin “The Jedi are taking over!”

Yes, they were taking over to ensure a safe transition to peace for the Republic, but does it really matter?

Was this scene foreshadowed by Palpatine’s statement of “good is a point of view?”

I think so.

It sounds hard to believe but hear me out.

What if Mace Windu killed Palpatine, returned to the Jedi Council and said it’s their time to take over.

Now let’s say, three months down the line, the Jedi are still holding the peace as they’re reigning over the Republic.

Why would they ever give it up? Would they really trust an independent politician for the post? Perhaps they would choose Senator Bail Organa.

Now here’s the problem.

If they did choose Organa, don’t you think he’d basically be a figurehead? Would the Jedi really let him be?

I doubt it.

I think they’re too bold and intricate to allow someone else to make their own decisions out of the fear (and paranoia) of another “bad egg” to come along.

675443_orig

This is why I think what Palpatine said to Anakin in that suite at the opera house has a bigger meaning than just the Sith.

I believe that scene is designed to let the audience in on a little hint, no one is safe from the distinction of good or bad.

After all, a taste of power does funny things to even the most honorable individuals…

The Return of Ahsoka and Star Wars Rebels

  1. maxresdefault

This Wednesday, the second season of Star Wars Rebels is set to debut.

With the familiar characters returning, the focus will be on a certain ex-Jedi Padawan.

No, not Kanan Jarrus but Ahsoka Tano, former apprentice to disgraced Jedi and all-powerful Sith, Darth Vader.

This story line has Star Wars Rebels picking up steam and gaining more of a following than when it first debuted last year.

Ahsoka’s first appearance was of course in Star Wars Clone Wars, but her exit from the show has long been a mystery to Star Wars fans everywhere.

Some rumors said that she was killed in the Jedi Purge others said she went into hiding to be never heard of again.

Well now we know, Ahsoka Tano has returned in the Star Wars universe, ready to give us all closure.

What really got me excited for the second season of Star Wars Rebels was the recognition between Vader and Ahsoka when they both realized, they’re indeed alive.

That scene gave me chills…

To see Vader acknowledge something from his past life as a Jedi is so fascinating. But to see that be his apprentice who he fondly called Snips, now that’s just awesome entertainment.

It’s almost inconceivable to think of Ahsoka coming to harms way by the hands of her former master or what’s left of him…

You have to remember that Vader is NOT Anakin and that he has repeatedly gone to extreme lengths to annihilate the remnants from his scarred past.

I hate to imagine what is to come of Ahsoka, but I think Vader will have something to say about it.

Ahsoka-Tano-Anakin-Skywalker-Star-Wars-The-Clone-Wars

Some other story lines that the show will offer is regarding the growth of Ezra Bridger, the potential-laden boy under Kanan as well as the Rebel movement and its progress.

Recently I finished Paul S. Kemp’s masterpiece of a book Lords of the Sith.

The book follows the Empire’s occupation on the planet of Ryloth, Hera Syndulla’s home world.

As the book progresses, you learn that there is a response to the Empire as the birth of the Rebellion is seen through the Free Ryloth Movement.

The leader of the movement is none other than Hera’s father, Cham Syndulla.

SPOILER ALERT

In the end, Cham survives the merciless blade of Darth Vader and goes on to live another day. It will be absolutely fascinating to see if he makes an appearance.

If you haven’t read Lords of the Sith, I highly recommend it. Not only does it have an amazing story but it helps give insight on character’s personalities such as the Emperor, Vader and the beginning of what will eventually be the Rebellion.

Since the last Inquisitor was killed at the end of last season, rumors of a new villain or villains have surfaced.

The last Inquisitor was a complete badass so I am looking forwards to whoever takes his place.

The final story line that I will be following on Wednesday night is the long awaited appearance of the clones.

More specifically, Captain Rex and company.

star-wars-rebels-season-2-trailer-rex-wolffe-and-gregor-364570

This is one of the most beloved characters from the Clone Wars era and his returning presence is truly awesome.

To see Clones, especially one of Rex’s reputation in the time of the Empire is just..cool!

It will be fantastically captivating to see what is talked about with the clones and the infamous Order 66.

I can’t wait to see what happens in this new and upcoming season but one thing is for sure, Star Wars Rebels is back and ready to deliver.
